Planning Permission Granted!

Market Place Centre will finally see its former Debenhams unit repurposed to accommodate new uses proposed for the space. Planning permission is now granted for the repurposing of the former store. The application was submitted on behalf of our  clients Moorgarth Retail Ltd in autumn 2022.

The proposal breaks the 110,000 sq ft unit into several different complimentary uses including 'right-sized' retail on the ground floor but most excitingly, a Music Venue for up to 600 people at basement level and provision for education spaces and facilities with the possibility to promote music making for the local and wider community. The proposal also includes co-working and bar/cafe spaces and the conversion of the top floor of the car park into football pitches and padel courts. Taking advantage of the sloping site, the north end of the shopping centre will enjoy a new public entrance from St George’s Road, improving access to and permeability of Market Place on the first floor.
