Harvest Lodge, London

This project takes an existing very plain apartment block, built in the 1960's and transforms it into accommodation fit for modern living. A new 2 bed apartment is added on the roof with dual east/west aspect and balconies front and back. The existing flats below are reorganised with winter gardens added to the east side to act as additional amenity space and balconies to the west side to extend the living space for evening sun and views over Kings Cross. The solid brick walls are overclad with insulation and brick and a new entrance is added at upper ground floor which together with the new winter gardens gives the facade a new composition and more urban hierarchy.

The rear yard of tarmac and dilapidated garages is transformed by replacing some of the garages at the back of the site with a new 2/3 bed mews house, rebuilding the remaining garages and providing a new shared garden for the residents of the main block.

Following a protracted period of consultation with the local authority, residents and leaseholders, the project has been submitted for planning permission.
